watercolors
For a long time I specifically avoided watercolors because I thought they were only good for seascapes and sailboats. It didn’t take long to realize how much potential there was in the medium, and realize seascapes and sailboats can make for interesting subject matter, too. The biggest obstacle to adopting watercolors, in my opinion, is the need for patience. You can’t rush the paper, and you only have so much control over the medium. Because of these constraints, I was forced to adopt a sort of meditative approach to water-based media. I’ve also learned to appreciate how my limited control allows a lot of interesting things to happen spontaneously that are more interesting than my imagination. I’m sure there’s a life-lesson in there, somewhere.
